Cameron’s team bedroom makeover and room reveal is finally here! He will be turning 12 this October, and going into middle school (insert mom tears!). It was time to upgrade his room and make it a perfect haven for a pre-teen.  What better way to get this project done than to partner with Potterxy Barn Teen!

Previously Cam’s room had drab printed bedding which I know he was a bit over, cluttered, and not to mention he had a broken bed. He was overdue for a room facelift.  With him going into middle school we wanted a room that fit his personality, not to0 kiddy, and to be suitable for a high schooler as this furniture will likely carry him through high school too.

Pre-teens are hard to shop for in general, and even more when you’re creating a new bedroom. We decided to do a subtle sports theme.

Limited bedding patterns

Cameron did have a sports bedroom previously, and he had sports ball patterns covering his bedding.  He started saying it looked like Calvin’s bedding, which is never a good sign since it’s his 5 year old brother.  I decided to keep some color but keep it a subtle striped pattern.  This will allow his room to be a blank canvas to incorporate any decor pieces that are pre-teen approved.

Add personalization

I always love personalization in kids rooms.  What’s great about personalization is that it rarely has an age expiration, which allows you to keep it in your teen’s room as they get older.

Room to grow

This will likely be Cameron’s bed through high school, so it was important to get a durable bed that my pre-teen could easily go into the teenager stage of life.  I picked a gray bed because I felt it was neutral and can fit well even if we change his bedroom decor around in the future.

Extra Storage

Cameron’s clothes are just getting bigger and bigger, Especially his shoes! I added a decorative shoe rack along with some under the bed storage to give Cam no reason not to be organized.

Pre-teen approval

Gone are the times when Cameron loves everything I pick. I wanted Cam to love the space he has probably for years to come, so I selected my favorite options and then let him choose the rest! Thankfully he loved each of my picks.

Subtle themes

I have always been a themed bedroom person for my boys. I think it makes the room pop more and makes it easier to style the room.  I get it, I have a pre-teen so I went with a subtle sports theme. I decorated the space with his awards and trophies, and topped it with this NFL pillow.  I would suggest subtle ways to tie everything together for your teen’s space.

I am so grateful I had the opportunity to work with Pottery Barn Teen to have the vision for my teen bedroom makeover come together.  It gave me the perfect balance of young adult and youth.
