Working out after having a baby takes so much motivation and dedication. I gained quite a bit this last pregnancy, which means it is that much harder to get back to my pre-baby weight. Let me just say, it has been more than a notion after this 3rd baby. I don’t know if it is the first time I’ve had a baby after 30, or maybe the fact that this body birthed 3 babies. Whatever the case may be it is tough.
Let me take you back a bit. With Cameron I was much younger and I did the first video series of Shaun T’s Insanity and lost all my baby weight ridiculously easy. After Calvin I challenged myself to lose the baby weight by training for a half marathon. I accomplished that when Calvin was just 6 months old, I had lost all baby weight and got to my smallest size I had been in years by the time he was 7 months. I also would do T25 on the days that I was not working.
Now with Cyrus it is a different story. Weight is not falling off as easy as before, and I am struggling with finding the time to workout. It has been a challenge getting in a routine with three kids. With Calvin, I was getting up at 5am like clock work going for a run, then coming home and doing T25.
Even if you aren’t losing baby weight, almost every woman has been in a point where their weight has gotten a little out of hand. If not you then slow clap to you!
I wanted to share somethings that I currently have been doing or have done in the past that has been helping through this weightless journey.
Mark it on your calendar: If you think without planning the time you will just magical go work out, WRONG. I add it to my calendar so I can start mentally prepping myself to get a workout in. Add it in my calendar allows me time to make arrangements for the kids and gives me time to give myself motivation .
Get workout gear that fits you: With me being larger than the workout gear I wore prior to baby weight, they are now uncomfortable. Workouts clothes are already fitted so when they are 2 sizes to small, it basically makes it impossible to fit your leg in. This can honestly we a deterrent from working out. You don’t want to be in the gym tugging on your clothes because they are too small. Grab a few pieces that you feel comfortable to work out in, it will help your mental space.
You know I have a love for leopard so it was only fitting that I had to get leopard workout gear.
Don’t get burnt out: I have been doing some form of Insanity my entire weight loss journey. Any time I had to lose weight I have done Insanity. I still recommend it to everyone. I have done every type of Insanity video, so if you have questions definitely ask! However, since I have been doing it since 2010 I just don’t have the same motivation. Yes, I have done the new versions of Insanity, but I still needed a change. This time around I knew I was motivated so I decided to try F45. It is another form of HIIT workout, but it uses workout equipment and it is only 45 minutes. So far I love it, and it has been great change of pace. If you are feeling lack of motivation, try switching up your workout routine.
Have an accountability partner: You need someone to help hold you accountable and cheer you on. Rick and I decided to sign up for F45 together. When one of us doesn’t want to go, we push each other to make sure we attend a class. If you are dating or married it has also been a huge great bonding activity for us. I encourage you to not go thru a weightless journey alone. If you don’t have one let me know, and I will be that one!
Your diet matters: No amount of workouts can make up for a poor diet. You have to watch what you are putting in your diet. I have been a huge fan for use on using Fitness Pal. It holds me accountable with the food I put in my body. If you don’t have the app, make sure you get it. I also have started out doing the Keto Diet. You can read more about it here. Once I have done it longer, I will be doing a blog about it once I feel like I have done it enough for adequate review. So far it has been going well. There has been ups and down, but it has been getting easier each day. If I can say anything it would be make sure to plan your meals out. You are more prone to slip up if you are just grabbing something because you are hungry. I got Simply Keto to help me with the Keto Diet. It gives you sample grocery list to recipes. If you are interested in trying Keto I would definitely recommend it.
Most importantly, you have to make sure that you remain patient. Weightloss does not happen overnight. Embrace where you are, and if you are not seeing the results you would like then also evaluate if you need to switch somethings up!
Being a mom can be tough to fit working out in. Even if you can’t get to the gym or do a workout video, just go for a walk with the kids!
