I realized I may have not shared our journey in quite some time, and with many new faces you may be left with wondering who are the Newtons and what has our journey been. I will say that it definitely hasn’t been cake walk and has taking a lot to get to where we are standing now.

Rick and I met in college. We met when I was a sophomore and Rick was a super super senior thinking he was a big man on campus. When we met through a friend making me go to a fraternity event, we instantly clicked. We fell deep and loved hard and fought hard. We were either hot or cold, no in the middle. That trait is definitely not a make for a successful relationship. After a year of dating we learned that we were pregnant with Cameron, and soon going to be parents. Honestly it wasn’t easy, soon after having Cameron our relationship started to crumble. It wasn’t healthy and we soon realized that we had to separate. Of course never a easy decision to make, but we had to do what was best for Cameron. Over the course of the next couple of years we co-parented, even with living almost an hour away. I also finished college. During that time we dated others and grew as individuals.
After almost 2 years we reunited and rebuilt our foundation. We got married in 2013. We then got pregnant with Calvin and also at that same time were struggling financially. From not being in great jobs to also not having good money handling. At that time we would visit Dallas where my mom and sister lived, and we always loved it there. It seemed some progressive and like it had the potential for more opportunity. Soon after we had Calvin we realized it was time to make that leap of faith. Rick wasn’t initially on board to move, which I completely understand that meant leaving his parents. Rick also didn’t want to move without having jobs secured. We both decided to transfer our jobs down, and then go on the job hunt once we actually moved to the area. Thankfully, we were able to transfer both of our jobs. Our lease was coming to the end, so we sold almost all of our items, and made the move with basically just the shirts on our back. It wasn’t ideal moving with a 4 month old but we had to try to improve our quality of life.
Soon after we moved we continued to get new job opportunities and really started to flourish . I started working my way up the corporate ladder. We also got serious about repairing our finances. Up until that point we weren’t good Stewards of our money. We had collections and poor payment history and barely anything in savings. We were determined to improve our money habits, in order to have financial freedom. It took so much work. We had to get disciplined, and make a game plan for improving our finances. You can read more about our financial journey HERE. With the progress of improving our finances we were able to buy our first home! Our family continue to grow and soon after owning our home, Cyrus arrived.
Somewhere on that journey the blog came, and grew where I was able to connect with so many women by just sharing our life authentically. My blog first started out at just a hobby to share my fashion. It evolved where I did life with my community sharing it as it happens. The good the bad the ugly. I feel it is important to share a perspective that is real, and letting women know it’s ok not to have a picture perfect life.
Of course not every season is good. We’ve had struggles and obstacles along the way, but we continue to grow and progression. This year we welcomed Cash to our crew, and now actively building again. I wanted to give another snippet of our live as I know many are not familiar with who we are.
