Rick and I knew once we moved into our house we would tackle decorating each of the boy’s rooms one by one. One thing I knew for sure when it was time to decorate Cyrus and Calvin’s bedroom, was that I wanted it to be fun and exciting for the boys and another atmosphere than the rest of the home. I normally am pretty safe and stick to neutrals. Actually prior to this home I have never really put paint on the wall. When this home completed being built, I knew that I wanted to be more daring and step outside the box with our bedroom paint colors, and give this home some character. When we were building the home, we had the builder keep all the walls white, because going with them painting would be pretty pricey.
Then insert the most unexpected and excited opportunity I have ever had. I am so happy I got the opportunity to work with HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams and had a blast on Instagram Live with Celebrity Interior Designer Brian Patrick Flynn. Brian designed this year’s HGTV Dream Home! In case you missed that live, I had the opportunity to have a virtual consultation with Brian where he saw the boy’s room in the middle stages of getting the board and batten installed. You can see this IG Live by heading to my Instagram page.
Brian told us his vision for the room and what would work with the space using the HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams 2021 Color Collection of the Year, Delightfully Daring. If you know me and have been here for a while, you know I don’t always go too far out of my comfort zone nor step out of the box. I had planned on using Delightfully daring, but in the 11th hour decided to do something different because I didn’t want too much blue with having blue bedding. I decided to do Bohemian Lace on the board & batten wall, and then Cloverfield above it. Brian stressed to live a little and took his advice, and did that. Never would I imagine I would do green, but it really adds to the room.
Brian designed the whole HGTV Dream Home 2021 using this Color Collection so I knew I could trust his advice from experience. Brian suggested I paint above the board and batten almost to the ceiling with a color that complimented the boy’s comforters. One of the many great things about the Delightfully Daring Color Collection is there is a color in the collection that will work for every type of person.
I am so happy with the results and Cloverfields takes the room to another level. I love how rich the color looks. It will be easy to transform this room to a pre-teen room when the time comes. I’ve heard green is really in and I am so happy I stepped out of my comfort zone and went with this color.
